On a black night
A dark seed sprouted white
Leaving forty feet of jagged metal beams
Winding upwards into every kids bad dreams

And up, half way to the sky
Covered in rust as if to hide
Sat a two ton box
With two little girls inside

And in the darkness they grew strong
And in the darkness they grew tall
And together they shivered in the cold metal walls.

Until one day, a clumsy bird
Off course in its flight
Hit the wall head first, cracked the metal,
And let in the light.
-excerpt from 'Freaks' a poem written by my brother and me.
